White Lady Peach

$39.96

White Lady Peach (Prunus persica) is an early white-flesh freestone peach bred at Zaiger Genetics in California, producing 2–3-inch fruit with very firm, sub-acid flesh and high red skin blush that holds up well to fresh eating, canning, and farmers-market handling. It grows in USDA hardiness zones 5-9 and AHS heat zones 4-9, needs 850-1050 chill hours, and is self-fertile, fruiting reliably without a pollinator partner.

3-4′ Bare Root Grafted Tree
Rootstock: Halford – Standard

Halford (Standard):
A peach seedling rootstock giving a full-size, vigorous, well-anchored tree — the workhorse of eastern peach growing. It offers no nematode resistance, so avoid known nematode ground.

• Support: Freestanding; no staking required.

White Lady was bred by Chris F. Zaiger, Leith M. Gardner, Gary N. Zaiger, and Grant G. Zaiger at Zaiger Genetics in Modesto, California, and patented as USPP5821 (filed February 4, 1985; issued December 9, 1986; now expired). The variety resulted from a first-generation cross: the seed parent was itself a selection derived from crossing O’Henry peach (USPP2964) with Giant Babcock peach (USPP1353), and the pollen parent originated from crossing May Grand nectarine (USPP2794) with Sam Houston peach (non-patented). The breeding objective was to combine large fruit size, high firmness, a high degree of red skin color seven to ten days before maturity, and freestone pit type with the sub-acid, low-acid flavor profile that Giant Babcock contributed through the maternal line. White Lady was one of Zaiger Genetics’ early flagship white-flesh introductions and helped establish the commercial market for premium low-acid white peaches in the United States. The variety’s parentage spans four prior commercial varieties across two generations of deliberate crossing.
