Water management starts with understanding where rain falls, how runoff moves, and where water can be stored or allowed to soak in safely. Rain gardens, suitable swales, storage tanks, and efficient irrigation can work together. Keep runoff away from foundations and assess soil drainage, groundwater, slopes, and contamination before concentrating water in the landscape.

Choose the sequence to fit your site and water needs. Assess drainage and safe overflow routes before installing earthworks or tanks, then match irrigation to the available supply. Earthworks are not necessary on every property, and no fixed installation order guarantees the lowest cost or greatest water savings.
