Bonfire Peach

$49.95

Bonfire Peach (Prunus persica ‘Bonfire’) is a compact ornamental peach prized for its striking dark red foliage that persists through the entire growing season. Thriving in USDA hardiness zones 6-9 with 350-450 chill hours, this self-fertile patio variety stays 4 to 6 feet tall and works well in containers or landscape borders.

3-4′ Bare Root Grafted Tree
Rootstock: Halford – Standard

Halford (Standard):
A peach seedling rootstock giving a full-size, vigorous, well-anchored tree — the workhorse of eastern peach growing. It offers no nematode resistance, so avoid known nematode ground.

• Support: Freestanding; no staking required.

Bonfire Peach is valued first for ornament — the dark burgundy-red foliage that emerges in spring and persists through frost stands out from every standard peach in the landscape. The cultivar was developed by J.N. Moore and issued as U.S. Plant Patent USPP8509P, named for the intensity of its foliage color rather than its fruit production value.

As a naturally compact dwarf, Bonfire reaches only 4 to 6 feet without dwarfing rootstock, making it well suited for container culture, small-space gardens, and ornamental borders where standard peaches would be too large. It blooms in late March to early April in a Zone 7 temperate climate — earlier than most peaches — and produces small fruit primarily valued for wildlife rather than harvest. Its low chill requirement of 350 to 450 hours extends its adaptable range into warmer zones.
